Project Waste Not started by buying and selling unwanted produce. In doing that work, we realized the bigger challenge was not simply finding a buyer or a seller. It was getting the right information to the right trading partner at the right time.
At its core, it was an information exchange problem.
What started as a produce problem became a data problem.
That realization led us to create a data exchange for the food and beverage industry, making it easier for trading partners and systems to share information.
We had helped free up the flow of information, but there still weren’t great tools for putting that data to work. Our partners began asking us to create solutions that could take advantage of it.
That evolution led to OFBCN. Today, the network helps retailers, brands, brokers, distributors, and other partners manage processes, collaborate around the work, and use connected information to make better decisions.
